(Verse 1) In a Harvard lab where the pigeons fly, Burrhus Frederic watched with a steady eye. He broke the world into acts and cues, In the Skinner box, there was no time to lose. Not just a reflex or a simple spark, But a functional path through the light and dark. He saw the future in the way we act, A science of behavior, built on fact. (Chorus) From the lever press to the fluid stream, It’s more than a ghost or a hidden dream. Skinner, Goldiamond, and Layng took the lead, Planting the science, sowing the seed. Consequences shape what we come to be, In the lawful flow of contingency. (Verse 2) Then Israel came with a clinical grace, Bringing the lab to a human space. He looked at the choices that people make, When the path is hard and the heart’s at stake. He spoke of the "Degrees of Freedom" found, Where alternative paths are gained or bound. Not just a deficit to fix or heal, But a nonlinear way to make life real. (Chorus) From the lever press to the fluid stream, It’s more than a ghost or a hidden dream. Skinner, Goldiamond, and Layng took the lead, Planting the science, sowing the seed. Consequences shape what we come to be, In the lawful flow of contingency. (Verse 3) Goldiamond charted the "Constructional" way, Building on strengths at the start of the day. Don't just eliminate the "problem" act, But create a repertoire, keep it intact. Look at the payoff, look at the cost, See the hidden gains that are never lost. A systemic view of the human soul, Giving the person back their own control. (Chorus) From the lever press to the fluid stream, It’s more than a ghost or a hidden dream. Skinner, Goldiamond, and Layng took the lead, Planting the science, sowing the seed. Consequences shape what we come to be, In the lawful flow of contingency. (Verse 4) Then Joe Layng arrived with a sharp insight, Putting the "Significant Other" in the light. He saw the emotions as a sensory guide, To the contingencies where we all reside. Not just a feeling that sits in the chest, But a signal of how our world is addressed. He mapped out the private, the hidden, the deep, In the promises that behavior must keep. (Chorus) From the lever press to the fluid stream, It’s more than a ghost or a hidden dream. Skinner, Goldiamond, and Layng took the lead, Planting the science, sowing the seed. Consequences shape what we come to be, In the lawful flow of contingency. (Verse 5) They taught us that context is always the key, From the micro-step to the grand degree. Teleology found a brand new home, In the functional patterns where we roam. Skinner started the fire and the flame, Goldiamond gave it a clinical name, And Layng showed the heart in the data’s design, Three lives weaving a single line. (Chorus) From the lever press to the fluid stream, It’s more than a ghost or a hidden dream. Skinner, Goldiamond, and Layng took the lead, Planting the science, sowing the seed. Consequences shape what we come to be, In the lawful flow of contingency.
