[Female – soft modern pop] The water level dropped a little lower The heads began to hang against the glass I meant to fill it when I walked past But something else always came first Days stacked up without a single glance The room stayed closed, the curtains drawn We moved around them like they weren’t there Like the quiet was easier than care [Male – rising rock] I saw them wilting from the corner of my eye Every time I crossed the kitchen floor I told myself I’d deal with it tomorrow Then tomorrow never found the door [Both – building] We left them in the dark We left them in the dark Forgot the light they needed just to breathe We left them in the dark We left them in the dark And watched the color slowly leave [Female] I opened the door one afternoon And the smell hit harder than before Not the soft sweetness I remembered Something heavier settling near the floor You stood behind me, didn’t speak Just looked at what we’d let become A quiet accusation in the center of the room Of everything we hadn’t done [Male – full rock force] I wanted to say we still could save them Cut the worst and change the water clean But the words stayed locked behind my teeth Because I knew what the truth would mean [Both – soaring chorus] We left them in the dark We left them in the dark Forgot the light they needed just to breathe We left them in the dark We left them in the dark And watched the color slowly leave [Female – quiet bridge] I reached out once and touched a petal It fell before my fingers closed Soft and tired and finished falling Like it had already let us go [Male] I turned the light on just to see How far the damage had really spread Then switched it off and walked away Because some things are easier left unsaid [Both – final powerful chorus] We left them in the dark We left them in the dark Forgot the light they needed just to breathe We left them in the dark We left them in the dark And watched the color slowly leave We left them in the dark And neither of us turned around We left them in the dark Until the silence was the only sound [Outro – female and male overlapping softly] We left them in the dark… (Just left them there) We left them in the dark…
