[Intro: Psychedelic-rock male lead, pocket-watch tick, fuzz guitar swelling] Look at the watch, now, dig it, follow it slow Halloween at the Rialto and the curtain's comin' low [Verse 1: Psychedelic-rock male lead, heavy and swirling, fuzz guitar and big drums] Every year the Great Mesmero comes in on the thirty-first With a silver pocket watch and a patter he's rehearsed Asks for seven volunteers and I'm the first one up the stairs 'Cause I'm sixteen and a liar and I figure no one cares He says you're gettin' heavy and I play it like a pro Let my head fall on my shoulder like a puppet in a show He has Mister Pruitt barkin', has the deacon cluck and strut I just copy what they're doin' and I keep my eyelids shut [Hook: Psychedelic-rock male lead, full band, wah lead guitar screaming] Snap out of it, he says, and he clicks it by my ear And the whole town claps in time like they been clappin' all year Far out, far out, every smile is locked in place Snap out of it, I'm tryin', but I'm the only one awake [Verse 2: Psychedelic-rock male lead, darker, fuzz guitar grinding] On the walk home down Main Street every window's got a glow And the folks inside are smilin' at the TV, nice and slow At the diner every customer is lookin' at the clock Every fork goes up together and comes down right on the tock Then I think about last year, how the town got so polite How the mayor quit his shoutin', how nobody's had a fight And the whole town hit the Rialto for the show, but I was sick I was home in bed with fever, never heard the first click [Hook: Psychedelic-rock male lead, full band, wah lead guitar screaming] Snap out of it, he says, and he clicks it by my ear And the whole town claps in time like they been clappin' all year Far out, far out, every smile is locked in place Snap out of it, I'm tryin', but I'm the only one awake [Bridge: Psychedelic-rock male lead, pendulum pan, the watch tick swings left and right, then the fuzz crashes in] Tick to the left and the whole street leans Tick to the right and they lean back clean Mesmero's at my window with the silver on a chain Says you missed a show last year, kid, so let's do it again [Final Hook: Psychedelic-rock male lead, full band, wah lead guitar screaming] Snap out of it, he says, and he clicks it by my ear And the whole town claps in time like they been clappin' all year Far out, far out, every smile is locked in place Snap out of it, I'm tryin', but I'm the only one awake [Outro: Psychedelic-rock male lead, fuzz guitar ringing out] He says look at the watch, and I'm lookin' at the floor And the whole town's out there clappin' right outside my door [End]
