The Ravens Watch
They're in the walls, they're in the wood Corvidae carved where they shouldn't stood Glass eyes catch every breath I take Mechanical wings — they never break Black beaks open — no sound comes out But I can feel them scream and shout Every room has forty more Watching from the ceiling, floor They don't blink They don't sleep They just watch me While I bleed The ravens watch with eyes of glass They catalog each time I pass The ravens know what I will do Before I even think it through The ravens — they remember ALL The ravens — built into the wall One sits perched on every door Talons carved from something more Than wood or stone — it might be bone They turn their heads when I'm alone I tried to smash one — it repaired The splinters flew back through the air Reassembled, good as new The raven's beak said: "We see you" They don't blink They don't sleep They just record me For the deep The ravens watch with eyes of glass They catalog each time I pass The ravens know what I will do Before I even think it through The ravens — they remember ALL The ravens — built into the wall Every raven is a witness Every raven takes a record Every raven feeds the house Every raven— Knows my secrets, knows my fear Knows I'm staying, knows I'm HERE I AM WHAT THEY CAME TO SEE The ravens watch with eyes of glass I am the thing they're here to catch The ravens know what I've become The transformation has begun The ravens — they remember ME The ravens — I'm what they came to see
