[Intro] Hey now, raise the lantern high Turn the old oak table wide [Verse 1] Maggie’s got the kettle singing By the barrel near the door Callum’s boots are already ringing Across the flagstone floor There’s a coin beside the fiddle There’s a spark in every grin When the first bright bow comes skimming Everybody piles in [Pre-Chorus] So take your friend by the shoulder Let the good night gather round When the room begins to thunder You can’t keep your feet on the ground [Chorus] Clap your hands, stamp your heels Tell me how the good road feels Round we go till the candles burn low Sing it out so the rafters know Hey-ho, pass the cup If you fall, we’ll pull you up From the harbor gate to the heathered hill We’ll be singing together still [Verse 2] Nora brought a red wool ribbon Tied it straight around the bow Old Tom swears he’s barely limping Then he leads the fastest row Little Jamie guards the shortbread Like a captain guards his gold But he trades it for a chorus When the room gets bold [Pre-Chorus] So take your friend by the shoulder Let the good night gather round When the room begins to thunder You can’t keep your feet on the ground [Chorus] Clap your hands, stamp your heels Tell me how the good road feels Round we go till the candles burn low Sing it out so the rafters know Hey-ho, pass the cup If you fall, we’ll pull you up From the harbor gate to the heathered hill We’ll be singing together still [Instrumental] [Fiddle break with handclaps and shouted hey-ho responses] [Bridge] When tomorrow calls us early When the mist sits on the brae Keep this little fire with you Carry one refrain away [Final Chorus] Clap your hands, stamp your heels Tell me how the good road feels Round we go till the candles burn low Sing it out so the rafters know Hey-ho, pass the cup If you fall, we’ll pull you up From the harbor gate to the heathered hill We’ll be singing together still [Outro] Hey-ho, one more time Raise your voice and hold the line Clap, clap, stomp, then the room falls still We’ll be singing together still
