When the Southern Winds Change (Growing Pains)
It blows hot, then cold, and old men keep on gettin' old, Witherin' up like a dyin' bed of flowers, Runnin' out of hours. It screams, then it shushes, a young girl's cheek reddens an' flushes, As she becomes somethin' the boys can't resist, Her Mama told her it'd be like this. Days go by, and by, and by, An' the hurt, just hurts, When the southern winds change, We're all growin' up, We've all got growin' pains. It's weak, an' it's strong, an' its stringin' us all along, We're just the sand in an hourglass fallin', Old shadows on the wall. It's soft, an' then it's ragin', everyone around here is aging, Ghosts that ain't dead yet, Wonderin' where the livin' went. Days go by, and by, and by, An' the hurt, just hurts, When the southern winds change, We're all growin' up, We've all got growin' pains.
