They left the level country fast, with open miles beneath the sun. But higher ground rose up ahead, the distant blue was turning grey. The mountain road grew steep and slow, and darker clouds consumed the day. [Pre-Chorus] There would be rain before too long. There was no shelter on the way. But somewhere farther up that road the Order carried her away. [Chorus] Storm and thunder couldn’t stop them, nor the rain that drowned the road. Step by step they closed the distance, mile by mile through wind and cold. Let the blackened heavens break, let the mountain take its toll. Storm and thunder drove them onward. They were not letting go. [Verse 2] The grey turned black, the wind came hard, then rain fell heavy from the sky. No roof, no fire, no place to rest, and still the mountain climbed up high. They had to reach the transport first, before it came to Lightwatch’s walls. So through the rain they carried on, while thunder rolled between the falls. [Chorus] Storm and thunder couldn’t stop them, nor the rain that drowned the road. Step by step they closed the distance, mile by mile through wind and cold. Let the blackened heavens break, let the mountain take its toll. Storm and thunder drove them onward. They were not letting go. [Verse 3] The road dissolved beneath their feet, to mud and stone and broken ground. The horses slipped and lost their stride, so both climbed down and led them on. But where two riders struggled through, a wagon had to fare much worse. And every mile the storm destroyed might slow the convoy down at first. So suddenly the rain itself was no longer only in their way. If wheels sank deep enough ahead, they still might catch them that same day. [fast instrumental] [Bridge] Then through the rain, beyond the bend, they saw the figures on the road. Dark cloaks. Horses. A waiting cart. One wheel buried in the mud. The whole procession standing still. [Final Chorus] Storm and thunder hadn’t stopped them. Rain had turned the road to mire. Step by step they closed the distance, driven on by something higher. Let the mountain keep its thunder. Let the storm still shake the sky. What had slowed the riders down had stopped the wagon farther on. [Outro] Beyond the bend, beneath the rain, the road had finally given way. And there they were. They had caught them. They had caught them.
