Killing Time
If time is always passing, why does it never move when I need it to? I can take what it gives me in pieces, but I can’t return what I lose They say it’s on my side, like it’s working for me in the end But I’ve never felt like I had enough of it to spend You’re told there’s always plenty, like it’s endless until it’s not Then one day you look back and realise how much you forgot No one can turn it back once it’s gone, it just keeps marching on And I keep letting it slip like I don’t feel what it’s costing If I kill time while no one’s watching is it really a crime? Or am I just standing still while it’s taking mine? If I kill time, will it be on my hands or is it just less than I had? I spend it on things that don’t matter, just enough to keep my head out of place Small distractions that fill up the silence but leave nothing I can replace I tell myself I’ll start when it feels right, like I still control the line But I’ve been saying “not today” for so long it feels like design I watch it pass without moving, like I’m waiting for something to change But nothing ever does, it just slowly rearranges The hands on the clock don’t stop, they just keep pulling me closer And every time I look away, I lose more than I admit If I kill time and nobody's watching would it be a crime? Or am I just standing still while it’s taking mine? If I kill time, does it give me more on my hands or just less than I had? It’s where I lost the chances I won’t ever get again The moments I thought I had time for but never stepped in To see those faces, or even say goodbye before they were gone I had the time — I just didn’t see it while it was on No one can turn it back It just keeps moving forward and I’m still here watching it pass
