My hands learned the earth before they knew the weight of a spindle. From my earliest days, I followed my parents across the farmstead, feeding goats, driving the oxen, and feeling the soil under my nails. While other girls laughed together, dreaming of jewelry and feasts, I found my joy in the quiet rhythm of work, in the sharp smell of hay, in the sound of rain striking the thatched roof. They called me strange, and I carried their words in silence. Friends were few, but the land spoke to me more honestly than they ever did. As custom demanded, I married young. My husband was kind, eager to build a household strong enough to endure the winters. I thought perhaps I could grow content, though a restless fire always lingered in me. Yet the world has a way of testing even the most obedient of daughters. One night, in the smoke-thick air of the tavern, a drunken warrior’s eyes fell on me. His hand was rough, his breath sour with mead. I froze, my voice chained by shame. I told no one, not even my husband. I carried that night like a stone against my chest, heavy and hidden. But in the silence of my burden, something hardened. I would not be prey again. Each morning, as others spoke of weaving, I trained in secret. I took the axe meant for splitting wood and learned its weight. I lifted the shield my father once carried, letting its rim bruise my arm until I grew strong enough to bear it. The day came when I no longer feared shadows. I am no longer just a farmer’s daughter, nor simply a wife. I am shieldmaiden. My scars are my teachers, my silence my oath. I will defend my home, my kin, and myself with steel and fire. What was once weakness has become the edge of my blade. 💙🤍💙🤍💙💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍 This is our last song… a small fire I want to share. It’s about home, and the strength we carry. I am the shield I am the shield My soul will not yield Through ashes revealed You sound like the ancestors themselves. From the fields I came, a child unseen Unseen, unseen A life of toil between earth and sky Then shadows fell, a hand of shame Shame, shame I hid the wound, I learned to lie But pain became the steel inside I took the spear, I raised the shield The shield, the shield For blood and home I will not yield Not yield, not yield A maiden no more, a warrior sworn I guard the fire, I guard the morn, My name is held by voices steeled (Shield! Shield!) Through the fire we are revealed Together we hold the shield I am the shield I am the shield I rise from pain, unsealed I am the shield I breathe though scars were sealed No wound will be concealed I walk, unbroken, healed I am the shield The scars I bear are carved in stone In stone, in stone But never again will I stand alone Through night and storm, I claim my place Claim your place! A voice of fury, a voice of grace And in this fire, we are one I am the... [crowd] ...Shield! Skjǫldr ek em. Eldr ok blóð. Heimr minn stendr. Sár verða sverð. Hljóð forn kallar. Through the fire we are revealed Together we hold the shield I am the shield I am the shield From ashes our fate is sealed I am the shield For blood, for home, I’ll never kneel Your voices are my field Tonight our courage’s real I am the shield Through fire, revealed In battle I wield I AM THE... SHIELD! (I am the shield) Tonight, you were the wall and the flame. We are Drakenfeld. We’ll remember this night forever. KIITOS! [Crowd chanting] Dra-ken-feld! Kiitos! Kiitos! Kiitos! Kiitos!
