Hollow Branches - Flood & Drought (The Sisters)
“There are two mouths in this world that feed together one drinks until the oceans are empty, the other gorges until the mountains are bones. We call them the Sisters. One wears a crown of black rain, the other a veil of cracked dust. They do not fight. They do not speak. They trade. When the first has drowned the valleys, the second comes to drink them dry. When the second has burned the last seed to ash, the first comes to fill the grave with water. They are not evil. They are not kind. They are older than your gods and they have no need of your prayers. You cannot bargain with them. You cannot stop them. You can only wait… for the day their eyes turn to you.” Rivers split their jaws wide, Teeth of stone grinding bone. Beneath the moon’s drowned eye, The tide takes flesh for its throne. Roots torn from the earth’s mouth, Carried screaming into the foam, The flood eats its children whole, And spits their ghosts in loam. Flood and drought— Punishment and purge! The water scours, The thirst will surge! From the first black drop To the last cracked ground, Nature’s sentence— No mercy found! The sun a blistered tyrant, Searing marrow into dust. Tongues split in silent prayer, Skin tight with famine’s rust. Grain rots in empty fields, The wells bleed only flies, And every throat that begged for rain Now chokes on cloudless skies. Flood and drought— Punishment and purge! The water scours, The thirst will surge! From the first black drop To the last cracked ground, Nature’s sentence— No mercy found! When bone and bark are equal dust, And roots drink only ghosts, The cycle turns with crimson tide, And feasts on famine’s hosts. Cleansed in fire, drowned in ice, No altar spared the cost— The flood will come, the drought will follow, And all your works are lost. Flood and drought— Punishment and purge! The water scours, The thirst will surge! From the first black drop To the last cracked ground, Nature’s sentence— No mercy found! No mercy found. Flood and draught.
