Miracle Poster Child

V6

[Verse 1] They told me faith could finish what God started, put heaven in the eyesight I still lacked. So every morning that the world stayed blurry became another way my faith fell flat. I learned to make a testimony of it, to sing until they called the broken blessed— a little miracle beneath the stage lights, still wondering why God withheld the rest. [Pre-Chorus] And every question sounded like betrayal, every doubt another stain upon my name. They taught me truth would never fear inspection, then taught me not to look too close the same. [Chorus] I am not your prodigal daughter, I didn’t lose the road back home. I followed every question you forbade me and learned how far your answers couldn’t go. You can keep the shame you called salvation, keep the fear you dressed in holy clothes. I didn’t wander from the light you gave me— I finally learned which way the darkness goes. [Verse 2] I watched you choose which children were deserving, which ones could safely fit inside your grace. I watched the ones who needed you most deeply learn how quickly love could change its face. And still I tried to make myself your favorite, sang louder, smiled wider, played the part— your perfect little proof that God was working, while terror learned the scripture of my heart. [Pre-Chorus 2] I thought perfection might outrun damnation, that being good could keep me from the flame. So I became whatever made you praise me and slowly disappeared beneath my name. [Bridge] If I could find that child inside the pew, I’d sit beside her while the voices grew. I’d lean in close enough that she could hear: You don’t owe heaven blindness dressed as fear. Get out. There is no God inside this building. Not one who needs your terror to be true. Get out. This isn’t what Jesus meant by loving. And there is nothing wrong with questioning what they do. [Final Chorus] I am not your prodigal daughter, so don’t keep waiting for my grand return. I didn’t leave because I lost my way there— I left because I finally let myself learn. You made my body evidence for heaven, then blamed me when the miracle stayed gone. I will not spend another life believing that asking why was where I first went wrong.
