I received a warning written On a napkin made of glass Said a stranger’s missing hour Was about to disappear fast I followed a trail of whispers Through a crowded room of ten Found a stranger hiding evidence From a case I hadn’t opened yet I memorized his patterns I studied every move The way he counted footsteps The words he almost used I uncovered the secret Hidden underneath the floor Someone had been moving pictures Three inches from the door I’m the world’s most unimportant spy The name that slips through the archives I stop a thousand little disasters Before they ever arrive I’m the world’s most unimportant spy A ghost passing through the night I save the things nobody notices Before they vanish from sight I spent six months investigating A missing piece of sound The final word of a sentence That never made it down I found it in a hallway Behind a painted wall It wasn’t worth a fortune It was worth it all I chased a false confession From a man I’d never met Who claimed he stole tomorrow Then forgot where he left it I uncovered a conspiracy Between a window and a door They had been changing places Since the night before I’m the world’s most unimportant spy The name that slips through the archives I stop a thousand little disasters Before they ever arrive I’m the world’s most unimportant spy A ghost passing through the night I save the things nobody notices Before they vanish from sight My final assignment arrived Inside an empty envelope It contained a single question And a reason to hope “Who protects the little moments That nobody defends?” I looked around the room And found my answer waiting there I protect forgotten details The pieces people miss The tiny turning points That change the shape of this I’m the world’s most unimportant spy The smallest name alive Holding together little pieces That everyone leaves behind I’m the world’s most unimportant spy The last one they’d recognize If the world keeps turning tomorrow I’ll consider that a prize [
