(Verse 1) The feast was grand, the table spread I’ve tasted every word they said. The wine was sweet, the fire was bright I basked a thousand years in light. But then a shadow touched the glass A whisper said, "This too shall pass." The very thing that gave me bliss Is now a cold and empty kiss. (Pre-Chorus) The plate is full, but the soul is dry I look at perfection and start to sigh. For every "Yes" must meet a "No" It’s time to pack my bags and go. (Chorus) It’s the law of the hunger, the law of the fill. The cosmic motion that’s never still! Substance Number Two – the pull and the push. The fire in the heart, the bloom on the bush. When I am sated, I crave the storm. When I am cold, I beg for the warm. From the heights of the soul to the dust of the station I’m caught in the Hunger and Satiation! (Verse 2) It isn’t just bread, it isn’t just meat It’s the rhythm of life in every beat. We tire of peace and we hunger for strife. To feel the sharp, jagged edges of life. Then we tire of war and we hunger for rest. To lean once again on the Infinite’s breast. The "Holy Boredom" – the divine design That turns the water back into wine. (Bridge) If I stayed in the sun, I’d go blind from the glare! If I stayed in the dark, I would die of despair! So I’m driven by thirst to the edge of the sea Then driven by salt to where rivers run free. It’s the engine of change! The reason we range! Through the galaxies, through the lives! It’s the hunger that thrives! (Violin Solo - A spiraling, restless melody) (Chorus) It’s the law of the hunger, the law of the fill The cosmic motion that’s never still! Substance Number Two – the pull and the push. The fire in the heart, the bloom on the bush. When I am sated, I crave the storm. When I am cold, I beg for the warm. From the heights of the soul to the dust of the station I’m caught in the Hunger and Satiation! (Outro) I’m full of the day... I’m hungry for night. I’m full of the dark... I’m chasing the light. The cycle turns. The lesson is won. Substance Number Two... Is never done.
