[Verse 1] Isaac called Jacob near, blest him once more, Said, “Don’t take a wife from the Canaanites’ shore. Go to Paddan Aram, to your mother’s kin, Find a daughter of Laban, and let your life begin.” [Pre-Chorus] May God Almighty bless your name, Give you children, give you fame, The promise of Abraham’s land and seed, May His covenant supply your need. [Chorus] Oh Jacob, wanderer beneath the sky, The promise of heaven is drawing nigh. From Beersheba’s plain to Haran’s road, The hand of God is your only load. [Verse 2] Esau saw his brother obey the word, And knew his wives displeased the Lord. So he went to Ishmael’s line once more, Took Mahalath to his heart and door. [Verse 3] Now Jacob came to a lonely place, As the sun went down, he sought God’s grace. A stone for a pillow, he laid his head, And dreamed of a ladder to heaven spread. [Chorus] Oh Jacob, dreamer beneath the sky, See angels climbing, hear them cry, The Lord above you stands on high, “I am with you, don’t pass Me by.” [Bridge] “I am the God of Abraham’s days, The God of Isaac — walk in My ways. This land I give to you and your line, Your seed shall be like the dust divine. From east to west, from shore to shore, Through you all nations will bless once more. I’m with you now, I’ll never stray, I’ll bring you back to this land someday.” [Chorus] Oh Jacob, dreamer, lift your eyes, The gate of heaven before you lies. The stone beneath, the promise near, The voice of God is crystal clear. [Verse 4] He woke in awe, said trembling low, “Surely the Lord was here, I know! This is no other than God’s own gate, The house of heaven where angels wait.” [Final Chorus] He set that stone, poured oil divine, Named the place Bethel — holy sign. And vowed to serve with heart and hand, “If God keeps me and brings me to this land, He’ll be my Lord, His house I’ll raise, And give Him a tenth of all my days.” [Outro] Oh Jacob, blest beneath the sky, The dream of the ladder will never die. Through promise and journey, loss and gain, The God of heaven will call your name.
