[Verse 1] I ate cereal at midnight In a blue plastic bowl One spoon bent in my hand Like it knew the whole joke The fridge hummed low The floor was cold I poured one more splash Just to watch it go [Pre-Chorus] And it felt so strange How a small thing saves me Little sugar rain On an ordinary evening [Chorus] Cereal at midnight Keeps me right Cereal at midnight One bite at a time Cereal at midnight Don't ask why Cereal at midnight Makes the dark feel light [Verse 2] I left the spoon in the sink By a stack of unpaid bills A cartoon on the box With the corners all peeled I laughed out loud At nothing much Just a spoon and a bowl And a stubborn little rush [Pre-Chorus] And it felt so strange How a small thing saves me Little sugar rain On an ordinary evening [Chorus] Cereal at midnight Keeps me right Cereal at midnight One bite at a time Cereal at midnight Don't ask why Cereal at midnight Makes the dark feel light [Bridge] Maybe that’s my way Of making peace With the quiet hours And the mess beneath One more crack One more pour I’m still here I want more [Chorus] Cereal at midnight Keeps me right Cereal at midnight One bite at a time Cereal at midnight Don't ask why Cereal at midnight Makes the dark feel light
