This is my take on "Were You There?" a song born as a pre-Civil War spiritual that carried the weight of a people's deepest sorrows and highest hopes. I wanted an atmospheric pulse to move away from the traditional sound and lyrics to find the stillness in the story. It focuses on the intimate "waiting" of that first morning—from the heavy silence of the garden to the first trembling light of the resurrection. I tried to capture the peace found in the transition from death to life. And how I might feel if I had been there in that exact moment. Happy Easter, may our Hope that is risen fuel your faith. ✝️-MB ---------------------------------- Original lyrics by: Unknown They are pre-1899 when first publishing is recorded. When they laid the wood down? Were you there... When the sun refused to look? Sometimes... It makes me want to stop. Just stop. Trembling. Everything is trembling. Were you there... When the stone was rolled away? Were you there... When the morning breath was cold? I can feel the ground waking up. I can feel the shadows... Folding into the light. Trembling. Everything is trembling. I was there. In the quiet. In the waiting. I am there now...
