[Verse] She said forever like it was carved in stone Like the waves would bow Like the stars would loan Their shine to us To guide us home But the tide pulls back Leaves us alone [Chorus] She said forever But forever's shy It hides in shadows It waves goodbye She said forever I said me too But forever's fickle And so are you [Verse 2] We built a castle out of paper dreams Lit it with laughter Sewed it with seams But the wind found cracks The fire burned fast Forever's a word that just couldn’t last [Prechorus] Promises whispered Promises loud Forever's a face lost in the crowd [Chorus] She said forever But forever's sly It slips through fingers It learns to lie She said forever I said me too But forever's fragile And so were you [Bridge] She drew a map A path to the sun But the ink smeared The road came undone Forever’s a compass that spins It cheats It’s the echo of steps in empty streets
