[Verse 4 — The Woman in the Car] I knew the voice before I turned. The woman from the car. Taller than I'd imagined, elegant, smiling from afar. "Welcome to Northwood House." I managed— "Hello." After all that mystery... "Hello." was all I had to say. I waved the brass key awkwardly. She laughed. "You have the key. That's your permission to stay." Then she looked around the room. "If a door is unlocked... it's yours to open." [Refrain] If the door is unlocked, it's yours to open. If there's something you don't understand, ask why. If an answer doesn't satisfy you, keep looking. Sometimes extraordinary things are hidden inside ordinary lives. [Verse 5 — The Truth About the Wallet] "You weren't really his wife?" "No." "The licence?" "False." "The address?" "Real." "The man who answered?" "He knew." "So everything was staged?" She smiled. "The wallet was real." "That's not what I asked." "No... it wasn't." I shook my head and laughed despite myself. "How long have you been watching me?" She started walking again. "That question... doesn't have a particularly reassuring answer." [Instrumental transition — music becomes lighter] [Verse 6 — Ordinary People] I expected spies and secret rooms, strange machines beneath the ground. Instead I found a reading room with ordinary people sitting round. Teachers. Nurses. Engineers. Mechanics. Historians. Drivers. People who knew a thousand little things the others didn't know. Three members in the kitchen were conducting their own case— someone finished all the milk and wouldn't bloody well admit it. An old man raised his coffee. "New one?" "Apparently." "Good luck." And then returned to interrogating the heating engineer. [Bridge — warm, reflective] This wasn't MI6. It wasn't some secret government plan. No agents carrying pistols. No master criminal clan. Just ordinary people who noticed when something wasn't right. People who couldn't leave a question unanswered and sleep comfortably at night. The retired engineer. The teacher. The mechanic. The nurse. Different pieces of experience brought together in one place. The ordinary are extraordinary. Maybe I was beginning to understand. [Instrumental — main theme returns, darker] [Verse 7 — 357465] She took me to a quiet room. A leather ledger lay beneath a lamp. Pages filled with names and dates, each one carrying a number. Her finger travelled down. 357464. Then underneath— my name. 357465 — ACTIVE. I stared. "That's it?" "What's it?" "The number!" She looked at me. "What did you think it was?" "A cipher! Coordinates! A combination! Something!" She smiled. "It's your membership number." [Music stops] My membership number. After everything... my bloody membership number. [Pre-Chorus — tension rebuilding] Then something clicked. "Wait." She looked at me. "The number was already inside the wallet." "Yes." "Before I'd followed anything?" "Yes." "Before the tailor?" "Yes." "Before I'd passed your test?" "Yes." I stared down at my name. "You'd already decided." She closed the book. "Yes." [Chorus II — darker version] Every answer opens another door. Every question makes me question more. How long have they known my name? How long have I been part of their game? And somewhere inside my coat, black paper waits with words I haven't spoken— Don't trust them. Don't trust them. Don't trust them. [Instrumental — extended prog section / organ / guitar / shifting time signatures]
