[Verse 1] Well, I bought that back forty With a loan and a prayer The soil was mean as a bad storm cloud And the wind tore up my hair Then I saw little boot prints By the turnin' row fence And a shine on the silo Like a dime in the grass [Pre-Chorus] They were trimmin' the beans And tuckin' the corn Laughin' in the dark 'Fore the rooster was born One winked at me Said, "Don't worry, friend" [Chorus] Pixies in the corn Pixies in the corn Work all night Then they're gone by dawn Pixies in the corn Pixies in the corn Bless my field Like they know right from wrong [Verse 2] Now the peaches hang heavy And the pumpkins roll fat There's honey on the porch rail And a cat on the mat I leave 'em a biscuit And a jar of sweet tea For the tiny little farmers Who keep watch for me [Pre-Chorus] When the moon gets low And the crows drift west I hear tiny feet On the cedar chest A soft little hum From the barn's back room [Chorus] Pixies in the corn Pixies in the corn Work all night Then they're gone by dawn Pixies in the corn Pixies in the corn Bless my field Like they know right from wrong [Bridge] If your crop looks tired And your luck runs thin Just set out a plate And let 'em step in They'll mend that row They'll turn that rain [Final Chorus] Pixies in the corn Pixies in the corn Work all night Then they're gone by dawn Pixies in the corn Pixies in the corn Raise a little hell And grow you something strong
