V5.5

The Headless Horseman (Verse 1) It was on a Thursday night, boys, when the five of us did meet, For a little game of soldiers that we'll never quite forget. Peter, Tim and Mike were the British - for the King - across the sea, Bart and Dave were bold Americans - all shouting, "Liberty!" And Michael was our umpire, such a devil with his grin, He'd cooked up something wicked, and we all marched straight on in. (Chorus) So raise your muskets, and stand together boys, Pray you'll see another dawn. For when the Headless Horseman's coming, Our hope is almost gone. (Verse 2) The orders seemed quite simple—take the village if you dare, Where Hessian lads, those renegades, had vanished in thin air. But when we reached the buildings, every door burst open wide, The renegades were zombies with a hunger none could hide. So Redcoat stood with Rebel, all our quarrels put away, Cause when dead come for you, boys, we’re all the same old prey. (Chorus) So raise your muskets, and stand together boys, Pray you'll see another dawn. When the Headless Horseman's coming, Our hope is almost gone. (Bridge) (Verse 3) Then out from the dark woodland came a rider black as sin, No head upon his shoulders, just the moonlight on his skin. Peter's lads broke ranks and in terror they did flee, "Stop that headless bastard!" was the general’s decree. (Verse 4) Every musket cracked like thunder, every bayonet raised with dread, Soon the fields were full of terror... and the living feared the dead. For no blade could stop that horsemen - nor death from musket ball And Tim’s men were turning zombie - and death was feared by all (Chorus) So raise your muskets, and stand together boys, Pray you'll see another dawn. When the Headless Horseman's coming, Our hope is almost gone. (Verse 5) With many men turned zombie, and the fighting taking toll Brave Tim found time to find that missing ancient scroll It was a map which showed the place the cut off head should be It was to the west, upon that hill, on the stump of an old tree And then he gave an order in a voice both loud and clear: "Mike, go fetch that head before we're all done here!" (Chorus) Raise your muskets, and stand together boys, Pray you'll see another dawn. When the Headless Horseman's coming, Our hope is almost gone. (Verse 6) Mike came back with the trophy - held it up for all to see, Tim viewed it with disgust, but he placed it on his knee The ghostly head let out a laugh that froze us to the bone But at least Tim now knew - the curse could be undone. (Verse 7) Then Tim told that gruesome head, like an order to his own "Go chase those rebel rascals now—and leave the King's alone!" So the Horseman wheeled in fury - charging Bart and David's men Now the Rebels were running hard through mud and smoke and rain. (Quietly) Then darkness fell upon us, boys - we slipped back one by one. The umpire had the last laugh but Michael's game was won! (Chorus) So raise your muskets, and stand together boys, Pray you'll see another dawn. When the Headless Horseman's coming, Our hope is almost gone. (Outro) So here's a toast to Thursday nights, to dice and toy soldiers too, To impossible adventures with an utterly mad crew. If ever Michael says, "I've got a cracking game to play..." Check the woods for Headless Horsemen first... then quietly walk away!
