🍀Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

[Verse 1] Little red-haired Silas Bare feet on the floor Sun hadn’t hit the curtains When he heard that hammer roar Up in the front yard maple tree By his bedroom pane A Yellow-bellied sapsucker Comes tapping back again [Pre-Chorus] “Tap-tap” in the mornings “Tap-tap” in the bark Silas rubs his sleepy eyes And yells out in the dark [Chorus] “Go on, sapsucker, fly away” Find another home, I say… Not in the maple tree near my bed Not with that pecking rattling in my head Go on, sapsucker, go on, fly away (Go on, fly away) [Verse 2] He’s a small woodpecker A red crown on his head And a painted yellow chest He drills a peppered pattern Puts my patience to the test… [Pre-Chorus] “Tap-tap” on the maple “Tap-tap” through the dawn I swear that bird is louder Than the rooster on the farm [Chorus] ‘Go on, sapsucker….fly away!” Find another home, I say… Not in the maple tree near my bed Not with that pecking rattling in my head Go on, sapsucker, go on, fly away… (Go on, fly away) [Bridge] Silas leans out the window Calls up to the limb “Plenty trees up by the creek now You could make your home in them” But the bird just tilts and listens Yellow chest in the breeze Then pecks one last row Into our maple tree…. [Chorus] “Go on, sapsucker, fly away!” Find another home, I say… Not in the maple tree near my bed Not with that pecking rattling in my head Go on, sapsucker, go on, fly away (Go on, fly away) [Outro] Little red-haired Silas Sighs and ties his shoes Morning comes with tapping And the maple keeps the news...
