When Gods Go to War

[Intro: war horns, distant choir, enormous toms, low thunder] You call it the Flood You call it the Burning Sky You call it the year The mountains learned to die We called it Tuesday And Kaelor drew his blade [Verse 1: low clean vocal, marching rhythm] It started with a broken oath A throne refused, a border crossed One insult carried through the court And suddenly the world paid cost Kaelor raised the red standard Velkara answered with the storm Solvar set the clouds on fire And turned the midnight into dawn Serathiel spoke of judgment Nobody listened anymore Then the first god struck another And the ocean left the shore [Pre-Chorus: rising orchestration] Mortals looked toward heaven And begged us to explain But there is no holy reason For divine mistakes [Chorus: enormous melodic metalcore] WHEN GODS GO TO WAR The earth remembers every blow Mountains break like brittle bone And burning rivers overflow The heavens tear The oceans climb Whole nations vanish between the lines And centuries later You call it folklore I CALL IT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GODS GO TO WAR [Verse 2: faster, heavier] Velkara split the western heavens Lightning carved a continent in two Aestra burned above the battlefield Trying to guide survivors through Morvane opened every doorway Because the dead came far too fast Orun watched the hours fracture As tomorrow swallowed past Vaelune pulled the tides backward Then threw them at the burning land And I watched cities disappear Under someone else's command [Pre-Chorus 2] There were prayers beneath the thunder There were children in the rain But gods hear very little When they’re busy proving names [Chorus] WHEN GODS GO TO WAR The earth remembers every blow Mountains break like brittle bone And burning rivers overflow The heavens tear The oceans climb Whole nations vanish between the lines And centuries later You call it folklore I CALL IT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GODS GO TO WAR [Interlude: battlefield ambience, distant screams buried beneath choir] [Low clean vocal] Later They wrote about angry heavens A flood sent down for sin A fire meant to cleanse them A punishment from within [Pause] That wasn't what happened There was no lesson No divine design We lost our tempers And millions lost their lives [Breakdown: crushing half-time] [Harsh vocal] WE BROKE THE SKY WE MOVED THE SEA WE TURNED WHOLE KINGDOMS INTO MEMORY [Gang vocals] GODS DON'T BLEED ALONE [Harsh vocal] EVERY WOUND HAS A WORLD BELOW [Gang vocals] GODS DON'T FALL ALONE [Harsh vocal] WHEN WE HIT THE GROUND EVERYTHING GOES Kaelor screamed Velkara struck Solvar burned AND THE PLANET FUCKING SHOOK [Instrumental: chaotic orchestral metal, blast of horns and strings] [Verse 3: low, exhausted clean vocal] By morning there were new coastlines And mountains where the plains had been An inland sea where millions lived Before the war began The surviving mortals gathered Whatever stories they could save And every generation after Made us nobler than we behaved They turned disaster into scripture Turned stupidity divine Because believing gods had reasons Hurts less than knowing we lost our minds [Bridge: stripped back piano, distant choir] I remember standing in the ashes Watching daylight turn to grey Serathiel asked who had won Nobody knew what to say Kaelor still held half a sword Velkara couldn't feel her hands Solvar burned so weak above us He could barely warm the land [Pause] That was the day I learned Power doesn't make you worthy It only makes your mistakes Bigger [Final Chorus: massive, apocalyptic] WHEN GODS GO TO WAR The earth remembers every blow Every canyon Every shoreline Every grave beneath the snow The heavens tear The oceans climb And history buries what survived Then centuries later You call it folklore Flood myths Fire gods Storms from heaven Sacred wars [Layered harsh vocal] WE KNOW WHAT THEY WERE [Full band] SCARS From when gods went to war [Outro: battlefield wind, low bell, dying fire] [Low clean vocal] So when someone tells you The gods are fighting Don't pray for victory [Pause] Run
