The moon dares not to sail above the waters black, Where night conceals forgotten halls below the deep, Where ocean knows the names of those who'll not come back, And silently their translucent paths it keeps. They rise when ocean's roar has fallen still and low, When final light dissolves to ashes, pale and grey, And ancient waters, breathing with a chilling glow, Sway the unbound waves of their hair in cold display. Within their darkened hair, the breath of ages lies, Cold pearls of years, and silt from temples long since gone, And whispers of those who never reached the skies, Echo in their voices, ocean's mournful dawn. They know no day, no sunlit brilliance to behold, Preferring endless gloom beneath the chasm's might, Where time sleeps among the ruins, ages old, And listens as the darkness blossoms from the night. And if at midnight by the water you should hear A distant female laugh, like breath upon the breeze, Do not turn back Run Run They call you not with voice, but with a rising wave, With salty silence, and the tide's soft, rhythmic sigh, And ocean watches, filled with longing that it gave, Awaiting for your step to draw you to the high. Their pallid faces frozen, like old marble's art, Their lips are cold as the first wave that breaks the shore, They are so beautiful, they make your beating heart Stand still, like black fire, boundless evermore. One day you'll hear a name within the water's roar, And start, for you once knew it, from a time long past, And warm wind through your soul will suddenly explore With cold silver of a forgotten sunset cast. You'll take just one step—and the sea will claim your shade, As night accepts the final breath of fading light, And somewhere in the depths, where countless days have played, Nereids will sing of what is lost in endless night. There, 'neath the reef's embrace, in silent palace walls, Where centuries sleep, forgetting land's embrace, They weave their wreaths from seaweed and from dreams that fall, For those the deep once called to its mysterious space. Their songs are not of turning back, of paths unwound, Their tenderness is colder than unseen chains' hold, They do not ask—no, they are always found, When the night sea demands what it is owed of old. And in the morning, shore is empty. Salt on stone, And wind across the sand carries a misty grey, And only someone's voice, quiet and sad, alone, Just barely touches waves: Did you hear the sea? I called…
