Wide-Awake Dream
6:00 AM, the grey ceiling stares me down again Bitter coffee, counting days within this clockwork pen I tie this necktie like a leash, a prisoner of the line But my spirit’s already gone, somewhere far and fine Tracing circles on the desk, escaping through the page While these walls try to hide the sky behind a corporate cage. I can smell the ocean breeze through the office vent Trading all my golden hours just to pay the silver rent But there’s a spark inside my pocket, a key to a new day Far from all the rush, far from the games they play. I’m gonna wake up when the sun says it’s time to rise! I’m gonna see the world and clear these tired eyes! Give me the wind, give me the road, give me what is mine! I’m free from the ghost, I’ve finally crossed the line! I’m living for the "now", no more waiting on a scheme! Living my life... like a wide-awake dream! I watch the people rushing, shadows on the street Forgetting how the grass feels beneath their naked feet But today I took a left where the rule was "stay on track" I left that desk empty and I’m never looking back Just a pair of old blue jeans and a radio to play About the simple joy of wasting time today. They told me "wait for Friday", they said "later you’ll be free" But my soul is in a hurry and the weight falls off of me! My time is my home! My peace is my place! I’M NOT JUST A NUMBER IN YOUR LONELY RACE! Finally free... (Finally free) The air tastes sweeter now. Doing what I want, I’ve made it out somehow. (Whispered) Monday is gone. And I’m finally home.
