Verse 1 I didn't grow upward I grew down I sent myself into the dark where no one could see me work I found the water table I found the other roots I found the underground language of things that don't need proof Chorus Root system I am a root system now Root system you won't see me but I'm here somehow Under the burning under the frost under the places I thought I was lost — root system going down Verse 2 The fungi found me in the deep They passed me minerals while I learned to sleep without apology without a clock without the performance of the overground walk There is a forest above me that doesn't know my name There is a network beneath it that connects us all the same Chorus Root system I am a root system now Root system you won't see me but I'm here somehow Under the burning under the frost under the places I thought I was lost — root system going down Outro (whispered) The root doesn't rush the spring. It just holds the tree until the tree is ready to try again. (heartbeat pulse fades)
