The earth is shaking, forests cry,
creation groans in deep despair.
We see the cracks, we wonder why,
and fear for bread that’s ours to share.
But God takes flesh, comes to the land,
and holds the world within His hand.

Wo Hass die Gräben tiefer zieht,
und Krieg den fernen Himmel schwärzt,
ersehnen wir ein Friedenslied,
das jeden Schmerz der Welt beherzt.
Dein Friede, Herr, den kein Verstand
begreifen kann, heil’ jedes Land.

Where hatred digs a deeper trench,
and war turns distant skies to black,
we long for peace to heal the stench,
and bring the hope of comfort back.
Your peace, O Lord, that none can know,
let healing through all nations flow.

Vom hohen Thron herabgestoßen,
wird Stolz und Macht zu Staub und Sand.
Du neigst dich zu den Mittellosen,
nimmst Arme schützend an die Hand.
Was wir dem Geringsten heut’ getan,
das nimmst du selbst als Liebe an.

From lofty thrones and prideful heights,
the crowns will fall and turn to dust.
You turn to those with meager rights,
and hold the poor with love and trust.
Whatever for the least we do,
it is our love returned to You.

Ein trübes Wort, ein falscher Schein,
verhüllt den Blick auf das, was zählt.
Lass uns dein Licht im Dunkel sein,
das uns den rechten Pfad erwählt.
Die Wahrheit macht uns weit und frei,
dass Hass und Lüge gehn vorbei.

A clouded word, a hollow light,
obscures the view of what is true.
Be Thou our lantern in the night,
and lead us to a path that's new.
The truth shall set us wide and free,
from lies and hate and misery.
