Gone Before I Got There

[Verse] I packed my bag with the sunrise glow Hit the road where the wild winds blow The sky was wide the air was thin Chasing time but I couldn’t win [Prechorus] Her hands were warm in my memory But I ran out of the time she gave me [Chorus] Gone before I got there Her chair now sits so bare I called her name into the air But she was gone before I got there [Verse 2] Her voice like honey used to hum The songs of old where I came from I held the wheel my knuckles white A losing race against the night [Bridge] The clock don’t care for hearts that break It just keeps turning for its own sake I yelled at time but it won’t slow I whispered sorry she’ll never know [Chorus] Gone before I got there Her chair now sits so bare I called her name into the air But she was gone before I got there
