i went to the old house again

V4

i went to the old house again burned out shell of what had been, overgrown grass and a dangerous pit, long abandoned, no one gives a shit porch unburned but so decayed, safety gone, ghosts all whisperin' the same sad song, scorched-out memories written in charcoal, meanings lost, except to the surviving role. the melted clock above the fridge, walt bought that one for midge, and the nook above the stairwell, us kids would listen to ma and pa for a spell someone tagged the backdoor with "fuck your past" and i laughed so hard but that didn’t last 'cause i found my name in the soot-stained wall— carved by me, before the fall the air still smells like Sunday night fights, drywall secrets and working ceiling lights. the floorboards sagged like guilt unspoken, but a home’s just bones when its soul gets broken. i found a tough patch and sat in the muck, thought about the the good times and the bad luck, i finished the bottle wished mom and dad a good R-I-P, this is the last year- even I don't believe me. [outro] [acoustic guitar fade out]
