Mal and the Scrolls of Power

[INTRO — town ambience, wind through wooden signs — Mal opens] Welcome back, hero. You look… worse. Did the swamp take your eyebrows again? Never mind. You brought the scrolls? Good. Sit down. Tell me what happened. [VERSE 1 — Mal recounting] He said the map read “Ancient Archive.” But the road there said “Lots of teeth.” Three dungeons. Two curses. And a very rude orkish priest. The mountain was haunted. The river on fire. He lost both boots and his last good squire. But somewhere in the ashes of a fungus-lit hall he found a glowing chest behind a crumbling wall. Inside were sacred scrolls wrapped tight in gold. He thought they held secrets no mortal should hold. [CHORUS — Mal amused] Magic scrolls. Quest complete. He crawled through hell for that elite loot sheet. Said the town would cheer, the bards would sing— and I would reward him like a king. [Instrumental Break] [VERSE 2 — Mal narrating return] He limped back to the village through smoke and rain. The guards at the gate saluted his visible crippling pain. Timmy waved his crutch around, the baker rang a bell— “The hero returns!” they shouted loud. The hero smiled. Then he smelled something. [PRE-CHORUS — Mal squinting] I asked him simply: “You… found them?” “All twelve?” Bless the gods. [CHORUS — NPC choir] FOR THE SCROLLS! FOR THE TOWN! THE HERO HAS SAVED US FROM THE TERROR BROWN! The famine ends! The curse is gone! We can finally… move along. [BRIDGE — quiet realization] I held one up to the lantern. Soft. Two-ply. Embossed. I looked at the hero. Hero… these aren’t ancient scrolls. These are… exactly what we needed. [BREAKDOWN — hero confusion] The hero blinked. “Wait. You mean—” [NPC CHANT] TOILET PAPER! TOILET PAPER! TOILET PAPER! [FINAL CHORUS — absurd celebration] The town rejoiced! The bells were rung! Timmy danced, cheering with one good lung! The baker cried, the guards all cheered— “Sanitation has returned this year!” [REWARD SCREEN — cheerful system voice] QUEST COMPLETE Reward: 14 gold Mild reputation increase 4-star review (out of 5) (Hero arrived slightly late.) [OUTRO — Mal calm again] You did well, hero. Truly. Come back tomorrow. I may need paper towels.
