[Intro|dusty vinyl × muted guitar × crooked piano] Cue the rain, dim the room, somebody missed their perfect cue. One line late, one look too cold— now the whole damn story must be retold. [Verse 1] You said, “Just say you’re sorry, it isn’t hard.” Like words are coins you drop on the bar. “Tell me I’m right, tell me they’re wrong, stand on my side and sing my song.” But every little phrase leaves footprints behind, tiny contracts signed in somebody’s mind. [Pre-Chorus] I know the scene, I know the role, soft-focus mercy with no soul. Say the line, save the night— never ask if the line feels right. [Chorus] Melodrama syndrome, lights on my face, tell me what to feel and where to place— my hands, my words, my guilt on cue, a perfect little husband written just for you. Melodrama syndrome, kiss before the credits roll, every messy human being edited out of the role. [Instrumental Break|gypsy guitar × brushed drums × detuned Rhodes] da-da-da, wrong chord, right smile, hold the tension for a little while. [Verse 2] “Smart people explain things nice and clean.” Sure— if you don’t mind what gets cut in between. Truth has corners, context, weight, but simple little stories hate to wait. So we trim the doubt, we blur the cause, we trade precision for applause. Now “I hear you” means “I fully agree,” and “I’m sorry” means “the verdict is me.” [Pre-Chorus 2] No footnotes, no maybe, no second view. Just give me the sentence I expected from you. [Chorus] Melodrama syndrome, cue the sympathetic tone, turn a living human being into an emotional phone. Call when hurting, press one for care, press two for “you were right,” press three for “I was there.” Melodrama syndrome, every conflict needs a scene, but real love isn’t always cinematically clean. [Bridge|progressive odd meter, bass-led] Maybe I care without agreeing. Maybe I stay without believing. Maybe your pain can still be real without deciding what I must feel. Maybe love is not a script where one heart talks and one gets stripped. Maybe “no” can still be kind. Maybe two people get to keep two minds. [Breakdown|lo-fi tape wobble × violin fragments] No villain. No savior. No perfect reply. No camera close-up when somebody cries. Just two tired people trying to translate different languages before it gets late. [Final Chorus] Melodrama syndrome, roll the credits slow, we learned how love should look from a television show. Say “sorry” on command, say “I understand,” erase yourself gently to prove where you stand. Melodrama syndrome, I won’t play it clean— I’d rather be awkwardly human than perfectly seen. [Outro|solo guitar × vinyl crackle] No perfect line. No perfect cue. I can care for your pain and still remain me too.
