The Crossroads Deal
"The Crossroads Deal (Double Platinum Funk)" [Intro - Spoken Interlude - Sam (female)] (The track opens with the sound of the Bimmer’s straight-six engine idling low and mean. A filthy, syncopated slap-bass line kicks in, locking perfectly with a tight, funky drum break. The slide guitar whines a slick, confident note. Spoken smooth, dangerous, and dripping with swagger.) They say if you go down to the crossroads at midnight, you can make a deal with the devil. But what happens when the mechanic pulls up, and the devil already knows he’s outmatched? You don’t sell your soul. You just roll the window down, take the double platinum, and leave him in the dust. We brought the heavy iron, we cured the static, and we built the fortress. Now, let’s lay down the funk. [Verse 1 - Matt (male)] (A massive, bouncing 808 sub-bass drops in underneath the slap bass. The percussive banjo plays a ridiculously funky, rhythmic tick. Matt’s voice is rough, arrogant, and riding the groove perfectly.) I rolled the E90 right up to the line Got the sweet smoke rolling and the engine tuned fine The devil’s at the crossroads, shaking his head Holding up a contract and singing the blues! I said, "Lucy, step back, don't you touch the fresh paint, I’m a heavy-metal outlaw, I was never a saint! I built the iron fortress from the Galveston sand, And now I got the heaviest damn sound in the land!" He looked at the blueprint, he looked at the math, And he stepped right out of the mechanic's path! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (A Hammond B3 blues organ swells with a nasty, undeniable funk chord.) (Matt - male) The ink is on the paper... (Sam - female) ...the platinum is cold! (Matt - male) We took the heavy trauma... (Sam - female) ...and we spun it into gold! [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Explosive, ridiculously funky swamp-trap drop. The slide guitar with talk box screams a slick, dancing riff over a heavy kick drum and slapping bass.) (Matt - male) We’re stealing a deal at the crossroads tonight! (Sam - female) ...got the double platinum shining in the heavy moonlight! (Matt - male) From the catastrophic engine to the family tree! (Sam - female) ...the whole damn world is gonna listen to me! (Matt - male) We poured the heavy funk right over the rust! (Both) And left the whole circus choking in the dust! Yeah, three heavy albums and the story is told— The king of the island is dripping wet in the gold! [Verse 2 - Matt (male)] (The beat drops into a raw, stripped-down funk break. Just the drums, the slap bass, and the mouth harp twanging a nasty rhythm.) We started in the dark with the gears and the grease Then we built up a kingdom and we guarded the peace We gave a little hazard pay to all of the troops And watched the neon Babylon jumping through hoops! Got Jackie in the passenger, the kids in the back And the whole crazy orchestra laying the track! The accordion is wheezing, the bagpipes scream, We just put a billion miles on the American dream! The counter-rotations are perfectly aligned, And we’re leaving all the amateurs way, way behind! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The Viking war horn blows a short, punchy, funky blast in time with the beat.) (Matt - male) The trunking lines are open... (Sam - female) ...the signal is clear! (Matt - male) The Galveston monster... (Sam - female) ...is the only thing you hear! [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Maximum funk volume. Turntable scratches chop up the slap bass, blending hip-hop bounce with outlaw swamp metal.) (Matt - male) We’re stealing a deal at the crossroads tonight! [Bridge - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The instruments drop completely out except for the dirty slap bass and a single acoustic guitar snapping on the off-beat. Matt speaks directly into the mic with a low, satisfied laugh. Sam answers.) (Matt - male) Hey Lucy. Keep the pen. I brought my own. (Sam - female) Three albums down. The engine is flawless. The perimeter is secure. (Matt - male) Put the plaques in the trunk. Let's go home. [Outro - Full Band] (The massive funk groove crashes back in for one final, triumphant ride-out. Every instrument takes a fast, slick solo over the heavy 808 beat.) (Sam - female - singing smooth, sassy, and fading out) Double platinum on the island... stealing the deal... (Matt - male - spoken, letting out a final rebel yell) YEEHAW! (The sound of the Bimmer tires squealing, leaving black marks on the crossroads, fading into the distance. A heavy vault door locks. Absolute silence.)
