I reached for something that no longer needed a reply. The space held. I didn’t. The ground kept its distance, unimpressed by intention. What once yielded now refuses to register weight. No recoil. No correction. Just form persisting without concern for hands. You mistake this for distance. It’s closer than that. I stopped adjusting to what never adjusted back. There was a time this required effort. Now it simply continues. Nothing intervenes anymore. Nothing edits the outcome. The moment completes itself without appeal. I don’t interrupt. I don’t interfere. I let consequence finish its sentence. Language thins when no one answers. Meaning sheds what made it bend. Every motion keeps its outline once the pressure to care ends. Not absence. Not loss. Just structure unburdened. I didn’t harden. I didn’t close. I removed nothing. I stepped aside and watched what remained stand on its own. Nothing followed the gesture. Nothing needed to. What once asked no longer does.
