A boy with a heartbeat louder than the street, looking for a story that would make him complete. He crashed into a stranger, her words like flame, but I knew his hunger was harder to tame. By the time he arrived, the shelves were bare, I watched his face break when nothing was there. (It’s okay, you’re not alone.) [Pre-Chorus 1] I wanted to reach him, to tell him it’s fine, but all I could whisper was, “You’re out of time.” [Chorus 1] He was just a boy, chasing what he’d lose, running through alleys with nothing left to choose. Every step he took was heavy, undefined, he was just a boy, running out of time. [Verse 2] Two punks in the shadows, a knife in their hand, he froze like a target with no place to stand. I clenched my fists tighter, I knew what to do, the sand hit their eyes but my punch landed too. He never looked back — he thought he was alone, but I was the echo that followed him home. I let him believe he had fought through the night, sometimes it’s better to stay out of sight. (“I was there, you just never knew.”) [Pre-Chorus 2] I carried his secret, I carried his pain, I knew he’d remember the scars in the rain. [Chorus 2] He was just a boy, chasing what he’d lose, bleeding in silence with nothing left to prove. Every scar he kept was a fractured line, he was just a boy, running out of time. [Verse 3] She tied up his wound with the cloth from his head, told him his hair looked better when it fell instead. By Christmas she left him, her gift in his hand, a red string, a pendant, his name carved in sand. I saw him unravel, I heard him alone, the cracks in his laughter cut down to the bone. Her words like a dagger, her back turned away, I watched him collapse at the end of the day. (“Don’t believe her, you’re worth more than this.”) [Final Chorus] He was just a boy, chasing what he’d lose, gripping at shadows with nothing left to choose. Every love he touched only slipped through his hands, he was just a boy, trying to understand. [Instrumental Break] [Outro] From the rooftop I saw him, his head to the night, the city below him, the edge in his sight. The lights kept on flickering, I wanted to call, but my voice disappeared in the weight of it all. (“I’m here… I see you. Please don’t let go.”) [Coda] I still carry his story, I still carry his name, a boy running faster than the world could contain. And maybe that’s where all of this began— the moment I lost him… the moment he ran.
