Your look sent a jolt straight through my gut, Scent plus tune wrote loops in my head, Now that tune starts and my mouth goes dry. Salt on my tongue, August on my skin, (hey-hey-hey-hey-hey) it sticks like a pin, We said, “just for summer,” with a crooked grin, Salt on my tongue, August on my skin. Backseat fog on the windshield, clothes on the dash, Sand on our hips, sunburn sting, we didn’t wash, Tin whistle from the shore shack, we mouthed that tune, You left me your banded string, I still wear it at noon. Woke in a cheap room, sun poured through blinds, Counting the mornings we had left, not many! Small secrets, sly jokes, your look said the rest. Salt on my tongue, August on my skin, (hey-hey-hey-hey-hey) it sticks like a pin, We said, “just for summer,” with a crooked grin, Salt on my tongue, August on my skin. Hey-hey-hey-hey-hey-hey-Hey-hey-hey-hey-hey Drafted a message last week, didn’t press send, Your shirt on my chair keeps your scent in this flat, A photo on my phone, thumb hovers, can’t erase, My body learned you, one hint and you surge back. Salt on my tongue, August on my skin (hey-hey-hey) Windshield fog and a wicked grin (hey-hey-hey) Surf like a drum as we breathe it in (hey-hey-hey) Say it again, say it again: “just for summer” When summer is done, there’s a hollow ache, yet thanks! When that tune hits, my chest goes warm, that’s enough Salt on my tongue, August tattoo, hush! ---------------------------------------------------------------- © BEAT 2025 All rights reserved.
