TIME 017 – The Palace of Green Porcelain | The Time Machine

(Verse 1) The Traveller walked with Weena through the silent countryside, Until a vast green palace rose abandoned at their side. Its porcelain walls shimmered with a faded emerald sheen, A monument to knowledge from an age no longer seen. (Verse 2) They entered through the ruin where the galleries stretched wide, And found the bones of science lying broken there inside. The cases stood in fragments and the labels turned to dust, While instruments of learning lay surrendered to the rust. (Chorus) The Palace of Green Porcelain stood hollow, cold and still, A tomb for human knowledge on the shoulder of the hill. The wisdom of the ages lay forgotten on the floor, And no one in the future came to seek its meaning more. (Verse 3) He wandered past the remnants of machines and ancient art, The scattered works of minds that once had mapped the human heart. What generations treasured now lay useless in decay, For all their hard-won knowledge had been slowly swept away. (Verse 4) The Eloi had no interest in the wonders gathered there, No memory of the minds that once had filled the world with care. And underneath their innocence the darker truth remained, The Morlocks kept them living till the harvest was attained. (Chorus) The Palace of Green Porcelain stood hollow, cold and still, A tomb for human knowledge on the shoulder of the hill. The wisdom of the ages lay forgotten on the floor, And no one in the future came to seek its meaning more. (Bridge) The Traveller saw clearly what the passing years had cost, For knowledge without guardians had withered and been lost. The future had inherited what countless minds had made, Then left it all to silence while civilisation decayed. (Outro) He left the ruined palace with young Weena by his side, And carried what he salvaged as the daylight slowly died. Behind them stood the relic of a world that once had known, How far mankind could rise before it left its works alone.
