03 - PAPER HEART PARADE - The Wonders

(1966 Single — The First Shadow Appears) (Soft tambourine and clean guitar intro) Verse 1 You walked slowly through the carnival lights Like somebody leaving summer behind Cotton candy skies fading into gray I knew something was changing that day Your eyes didn’t shine the way they did before Like you were already halfway out the door And the Ferris wheel kept turning around While my heart kept sinking down Pre-Chorus Nobody tells you when the magic ends It just slips away from your hands Chorus Paper heart parade Blowing down the avenue Every little dream we made Falling out of view Paper heart parade Marching through my mind again Funny how a summer love Can disappear like wind Verse 2 Movie signs glowing through the rain We still laughed but it felt strained Your fingers barely holding mine Like you were running out of time The band kept playing our old song But somehow it sounded wrong And all the kids were dancing slow To a world we didn’t know Pre-Chorus Nobody warns you love can fade Even under neon shades Chorus Paper heart parade Blowing down the avenue Every little dream we made Falling out of view Paper heart parade Marching through my mind again Funny how a summer love Can disappear like wind Bridge (soft backing harmonies) Ooooh… Do you remember me… Ooooh… The way we used to be… Guitar Solo (Melodic, emotional, restrained) Final Chorus Paper heart parade Still drifting through my memory Every street and every light Brings back what used to be Paper heart parade Gone before I understood How something could feel forever And still not last for good Outro (soft repeated harmonies fading) Paper heart parade… Paper heart parade…
