How AI Musicians Actually Work

Verse 1 I opened up the internet To see what folks would say, And someone wrote with confidence, “I know how songs are made.” “You type three words, you press a key, The robot does the rest.” I nearly dropped my cup of tea, That theory was a mess. Some people write a single line, And call the whole thing done, But that's a bit like saying every chef Makes noodles one by one. Chorus Some write lyrics, some write lore, Some build worlds you've never seen before. Some sing vocals, some play keys, Some politely ask the robots “please.” Some spend hours, some spend days, Trying twenty-seven different takes. Funny how the answer tends to be: It depends, my friend, it depends indeed. Verse 2 One musician writes a novel first, A hundred pages long, Then turns the story into themes And builds an album song by song. Another grabs a microphone, And sings the melody, While software handles drums and bass And helps complete the piece. Another plays acoustic guitar From morning until night, Then lets the machine fill in the gaps And make the mix sound right. Bridge Now I'm trying to learn the rules, I've made myself a chart: This tool's fine. That tool's bad. This one makes folks really mad. Microphones? Approved today. Computers? Also okay. Plugins? Fine. Virtual drums? Sure. Then one new button shows up and suddenly Civilization's doomed once more. Verse 3 I've seen artists draw their covers, Write their stories, sing their songs, Spend more hours on a project Than some movies took all month long. I've seen others keep it simple, And that's perfectly alright. Not every path to making music Has to look exactly alike. The funny thing about creativity Since the day the world began, Is every tool still needs somebody With an idea and a plan. Final Chorus Some write lyrics, some write lore, Some build worlds you've never seen before. Some sing vocals, some play keys, Some politely ask the robots “please.” Different roads and different ways, Different tools for different days. If you're wondering how it works, you see: It isn't one thing. It never was. And that's the funny part to me.
