[INSTRUMENTAL] [VERSE 1 – hush, as if overheard through scaffolding, 7/8 meter with internal syncopation] He exits the J train, never on time— That same corner near Delancey where the pigeons mimic gunfire. His earbuds loop a loop of a loop— a field recording of trains, stitched with old voicemail. [Spoken: “You there?” then static like footfalls] [CHORUS – saxophone-broken, chopped polyrhythms, like jazz lost in Bluetooth] Between rush hour and eye contact, He becomes part texture, part myth. Between the turnstile and side-glance, He forgets what touch is shaped like. He walks in syncopation–– .........with nothing in mind but everyone in sight. [VERSE 2 – alternating whispers and falsetto drone] There’s a barista who never sees him. They’ve shared seventy-three mornings. She calls him “hon.” Once, she said: “You always look like a place I’ve been.” He blinked. Left a tip the shape of a year he won’t return to. (That was the only thing he ever did in full color.) [CHORUS – glitch-gospel; off-beat claps, background noise from the A/C vent] Between the stoop and the scent of rain, He is more gesture than man. Between sirens and the rustle of old flyers, He names himself without speaking. He walks in anonymity— ...........but only because it keeps his name from misfiring. [BRIDGE – instrumental, detuned upright piano & drone of distant traffic] [spoken under breath, processed to fragment syllables] “He thinks in fragments never likes whole days Too present to be found Too honest to stay...” [CHORUS – clashing chimes, plucked strings glitching] He walks unnamed— Yet never off the grid. Wired in his gait— but barely ever did. He’s fluent in crosswalks, in cadence, in slide. Where the city forgets, he’s the glitch it can’t hide. [OUTRO – field-recorded subway ambience + breathy vocals with consonants swallowed] Oh he stays in motion to offset the static, Where shoulder brushes are the only prayers left. He stays in motion, He stays in motion, not to arrive—but to reflect a version of self that can’t be kept. [CHORUS – modulated now; pulses scatter across stereo field] He walks unnamed— like silence with a beat. A whisper coded in scaffolds— never fixed, never complete. He hums in the margins between debit beeps and door alarms— Where the algorithm skips but doesn’t disarm. He stays in motion where no one knows the score, He stays in motion where the tempo means more— [Final Verse – single organ chord, trembling] He typed once. Never pressed send. He said: “You move like a secret the city forgot to bury.” She never read it. She wouldn’t have understood. But he walked slower for one block that night. [FINAL REFRAIN – free time, wordless scat through vocoder, ending unresolved] Oh he stays in motion He stays in motion not from fear—but design— Because dissonance, darling, is the only true sign— that he’s still unread but aligned. He stays in motion [Improv sax riff] He stays in motion in the invisible art that is HE. [INSTRUMENTAL]
