#sunoverse - The Silver Man's Burden

He fell from the velvet black of the night A tear in the fabric of dark and light He landed in the cornfields of the west A silver giant put to the test. He stood fifty feet in the morning sun We saw the power and we reached for the gun He raised a hand of chrome and steel But he did not fight and he did not kneel. Oh, the spaceman came with a heavy heart To watch the world fall apart He holds the sky up with his mind Leaving the weapon far behind. Gravity bends at his command But he will not strike this frightened land. The tanks rolled in with a thunderous sound Shaking the roots of the frozen ground We fired the shells at his shining chest Putting the alien to the test. But the missiles stopped in the thin cold air Held by a ghost that wasn't there He looked at us with eyes of blue And whispered words that no one knew. He could have crushed us into dust He could have turned our bones to rust With a wave of his hand He could level the land! But he caught the fire in his palm And the storm turned into calm. He turned his back on the tanks and the men And rose to the stars to fly again He left a circle in the corn A place where a different hope was born. If you look at the moon on a winter night You might see a flash of silver light Watching the children who aim their stone At a king upon a gravity throne. Oh, the spaceman came with a heavy heart To watch the world fall apart He holds the sky up with his mind Leaving the weapon far behind. Gravity bends at his command But he will not strike this frightened land. He will not strike... He will not strike...
