There were no distress calls, no cargo deadlines and no patrols on the scanners. For once, the crew had time to breathe. While the others slept or occupied themselves with repairs and routine maintenance, Darek spent long hours alone in the observation dome, watching distant stars pass by. Somewhere among those lights were worlds he would never visit, civilizations he would never meet and stories he would never hear. Yet instead of feeling small, the vastness of the galaxy filled him with a strange sense of peace. For years, survival had been the only goal. Now, for the first time in a long while, he found himself simply appreciating the journey.
