As I drank the wine we shared, I saw the way she thought and cared. I watched her weed her garden bed And realised she deserved much more. My emotions and my thoughts both reeling, Knowing that this inward feeling Was mine alone and unrevealing, I had to leave my mind unsure. Were my ways unlike her past Could I fit her social class Years gone by I wouldn't ask But now I have these doubts within I'd have to be accepted, true By other people whom she knew By friends, and by her children too And fate has made me as I am To walk away from these new dreams Fighting off my inward screams The past is gone, and now it seems My future has become so low Her life needs more than I have It needs much more than I can give She was the light my mind will crave Relent I must, and I must go. Is she really what I think of her But then, am I Is it a fear of what may be That I feel this way Or is it love She is many challenges in one Tempestuous and testy Yet so lovable Challenging yet so meek Confident yet so shy She was mine once But not now Even though I love her deeply And always will If I could be allowed I would be hers But I'm not It's because of me Because of what I've been And again I ask you fate, Why.
