[INTRO — cold minor-key music box begins alone with a clear two-bar melody. Distant low hum enters. The music-box motif remains audible throughout the entire song. Crowd settles into a hush.] [soft music box, distant low hum] Mmm, mmm, mmm Oh, oh, oh [Verse 1] I woke up shining From the window flame A little light on my shoulders From the dreams I chased Then I saw the doorway Blue on the floor My hands felt colder When I reached for more [Pre-Chorus] Mmm, I can feel it fade Oh-oh, it’s slipping through Mmm, I hear the night call Calling me away from you [Chorus] Step into the dark Step into the dark Mmm, mmm, mmm, oh, oh, oh It feels so wrong Step into the dark Step into the dark Out of the light And into the night [Verse 2] I brushed off the sunlight By the back door mat Cold cup waiting And my heart looked back Now the night looks bigger With a sky so deep I’m smiling at the shadows That used to sleep [Pre-Chorus] Mmm, I can feel it fade Oh-oh, it’s slipping through Mmm, I hear the night call Calling me away from you [Instrumental breakdown] [Chorus] Step into the dark Step into the dark Mmm, mmm, mmm, oh, oh, oh It feels so wrong Step into the dark Step into the dark Out of the light And into the night [Bridge] I was not made for the glare Not made to stand in gold I found a little midnight And it led me cold [Final Chorus] Step into the dark Step into the dark Mmm, mmm, mmm, oh, oh, oh It feels so wrong Step into the dark Step into the dark Out of the light And into the night Step into the dark Step into the dark Mmm, mmm, mmm, oh, oh, oh I’m gonna hide
