[Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] The road went gold, then violet Under wires and warning signs I had one hand on the wheel And one eye on the fading line There was a glow beyond the foothills Like a fire that would not die A white house in the distance With a tower in the sky [Pre-Chorus] I should have kept on driving I should have let it fade But the night was getting hungry And the doorway knew my name [Chorus] Welcome to the Last Light Hotel Where the windows shine like heaven And the halls remember well You can hear the music rising From the courtyard and the well Everybody comes for shelter At the Last Light Hotel [Instrumental Break] [Verse 2] There were dancers in the doorway There were diamonds in the dust There were silver cups on tables There were smiles you could not trust And the woman at the counter Had a voice like summer rain She said, “Rest your bones, young stranger You look tired of the pain” [Pre-Chorus] The candles leaned toward midnight The shadows learned to sway And every face looked older When the music slipped away [Chorus] Welcome to the Last Light Hotel Where the wine is always waiting And the stories never tell You can lose a little sorrow You can lose yourself as well Everybody leaves a memory At the Last Light Hotel [Instrumental Break] [Bridge] In the room above the garden I heard footsteps in the wall Someone laughing down below me Someone crying down the hall I found my coat beside the mirror But the road was gone from view And the man behind the curtain Had my eyes when he came through [Verse 3] Now the sunrise hits the windows But the glass just turns it red There are voices in the stairwell There are roses by the bed I have written down this warning On a matchbook by the flame But the ink keeps turning golden And the paper signs my name [Final Chorus] Welcome to the Last Light Hotel Where the doors are dressed in velvet And the angels never fell You can dream of open highways You can swear you broke the spell But the road bends back by morning To the Last Light Hotel [Instrumental Break] [Outro] The road bends back by morning To the Last Light Hotel The road bends back by morning To the Last Light Hotel
