LYRICS BELOW (if you wanna skip the rambling about this song) As promised, and like I did with "The Dark We Once Shone", I decided to share a tiny bit 🤏 of my process. If you are curious, you can find it below 👇 the lyrics. === ******** RAMBLING ******** Every few months, I jump into a big Suno project to challenge myself: create something that Suno cannot generate in a single generation/prompt. A few my big past projects were: Abyss Of Need (v4.5+) No Halo (v4.5+) Halfway Forever (v4.5+) The Golden Martyr (v4.5+) Never Again (v5) The Dark We Once Shone (v5.5) All these songs required a ton of work and a shitload of credits. Every time, I learned a lot about Suno and how to use it to create exactly what I envision instead of playing the "Suno slot machine" of: 1. write a prompt 2. click create 3. pray --- Project Stop (was the original codename for this song) is my newest big project. I had an idea and I just HAD to make it work. Unfortunately, my favorite tool (extend) has not been working very well since v5.5. Also, covers and samples are also a pain in the ass for any song going over the 3-4 minute mark as the sound quality takes a big drop and degrades, especially with distorted guitars. So, for Stop, I didn't use a single extension and I only covered and sampled short sections to preserve the sound quality throughout. Instead of using "extend", I created different parts, studio covers and studio generations, and stitched everything together into a (I think) coherent whole. This song was extremely hard to produce for what I guess is a very little pay off. However, I'm very proud of myself because it's exactly the song I had envisioned and the last couple of minutes still sound pretty good. This not just a song. This is storytelling. So the best way to enjoy it is by paying attention to both the lyrics and the music because they go hand in hand to tell a story. A heartbreaking story about drug abuse that unfortunately affects more and more people today in these trying times. If you don't love the song, I hope you can at least appreciate the work that was put into it. Enjoy! 🫶 ============ ******** LYRICS ******** [Part 1 - Depression] Depression's claws sink deeper as the days all bleed to black I am hollowed out and empty, no way of coming back No spark left in my dead eyes, no reason left to fight Just this crushing weight of nothing in a never ending night I drag my broken body through a world that doesn't care A phantom among the living with a vacant, hollow stare Every breath feels stolen, every heartbeat is a lie I'm already buried in the ground... I just haven't fucking died It hurts It hurts It hurts It hurts Make it stop Make it stop Make it stop Hurry up... Hurry up... Make it stop Make it stop MAKE IT STOP!!!!! Needle pierces my skin Needle pierces my vein I slowly welcome in The traitorous poison Light rapidly joins in Peacefully settles within Rids me of all my sins Lovin' Lovin' Lovin' This feelin' Rising from the endless abyss The agony I won't miss Stealing one last poisoned kiss "Well, hello there, bliss!" [Part 2 - Rage] Rage explodes inside me At this fucked up world I see At the mirror And the monster It's reflecting back at me I hate the weak pathetic shell of who I used to be Tearing at my own flesh just to feel something concrete Self-loathing is the fuel that keeps my fire burning I want to watch it all collapse, every single goddamn thing Screaming at the heavens Cursing every fucking star The only thing I'm good at Is destroying who we are It hurts It hurts It hurts It hurts Make it stop Make it stop Make it stop Hurry up... Hurry up... Make it stop Make it fucking stop MAKE IT STOP!!!!! Needle pierces my skin Needle pierces my vein I slowly welcome in The traitorous poison Light rapidly joins in Peacefully settles within Rids me of all my sins Lovin' Lovin' Lovin' This feelin' Rising from the endless abyss The agony I won't miss Stealing one last poisoned kiss "Well, hello there, bliss!" [Part 3 - Withdrawal Symptoms] Withdrawal comes like judgment Every nerve is set on fire Body shaking uncontrollably The sickness climbing higher Cold sweat soaking through the sheets, the demons at my door Whispering that one more hit will even up the score Stomach churning acid, bones aching to the core IMd crawl across broken glass just to feel the rush once more This living hell I built myself is where I now reside The only key that opens it is the poison I inject inside It hurts… It hurts… It hurts more than before… Make it stop… Make it stop… Make it stop… Hurry up… Hurry up… Make it stop… MAKE IT FUCKING STOP! Needle… Vein… Light rapidly joins in Peacefully settles within Rids me of all my sins Lovin' Lovin' Lovin' This feelin' Rising from the endless abyss The agony I won't miss Stealing one last final breath "Well, hello there, death..." ==== ******** PROCESS ******** I obviously can't link the hundreds of songs I made, so here are a few snippets / milestones to show how the process went. ** Note that most of the prompts (lyrics or styles) won't make much sense because of the edits, samples and covers used so don't pay too much attention to them. ** Proof of concept ** I had an idea in mind and I started to do some tests to find out which techniques I could use to make it happen. At this point, I still didn't have lyrics for the song. Only a vague idea of the pre-chorus and hook. For the calmness, I hesitated between heroine and death. I ended up with both, I guess. https://suno.com/s/k3yBA8n0dkkEQNd8 https://suno.com/s/2jqE0PIh7Be7KJkI https://suno.com/s/qBbGCfmNAXCGz17T https://suno.com/s/VUIuhXgYnIncaw5C ** Hook ** I started by finding the hook I was looking for and tried a bunch of covers/samples to get to this last one, which I used in the final version of the song. https://suno.com/s/1cMit93uYr0roukQ https://suno.com/s/ZXdZIBLMwZt0YmGM https://suno.com/s/o4Ni8JOUw1iw30J6 ** Pre-chorus ** This is the generation where I found the pre-chorus (1:05) Pretty decent song in itself. In other circumstances, I might have worked on this one. https://suno.com/s/gtcqkQj0GvWIFSqV ** Stitch test ** I did a few stitching tests to see how it would turn out and tried many different methods of stitching the parts together. This is one of the tests where I stitched the first 3 sections (verse 1, pre-chorus, chorus). The rest of the lyrics weren't quite ready at that point. https://suno.com/s/aSiVtJUUfOB9EPgo ** Grindcore verses ** Because of the pre-chorus and chorus I was working with, it was impossible to get Suno to create really heavy verses. So I created a lyrics prompt for the full song without choruses, using the stitch test as base and started generating songs until I found something aggressive that I liked without clean vocals. I added an acoustic interlude in place of the chorus to help with the transitions because I knew they could be a nightmare to deal with and wanted to give myself the best odds at succeeding. And since it was based on the stitch test, the interlude sounded a bit like the chorus. In the end, I changed the third part of the song, but I essentially kept 2/3rd of it. https://suno.com/s/XTmE8DLwvHnUAWt6 ** Stitched up full song ** This was my first full version stitched together, but before fixing everything (especially the transitions) and dumping the 3rd part. This version is quite hilarious without transitions. https://suno.com/s/G4StDo2rB2ZHI0CS
