The silver saucer spins upon the clay, A drop of honey for the thirsty road. We leave the iron tracks of yesterday, To carry such a strange and heavy load. Play the hollow wood until it sings! Let the river-flow become a flood! The Guest is plucking all the broken strings, To wake the city with a taste of blood! The birch bark curls beneath the morning frost, A hidden key inside a house of bronze. We are the names that logic has but lost, The ones who dance when every law is gone. Open the gate! Shatter the glass! The Guest is at the door— Let the travelers pass! The river has no bank— The border has no floor! We traded all our years for one bright coin, To see the world inside the crystal grain. The circle breaks where two dark pathways join, And nothing that we knew will stay the same. The forest waits with green and greedy eyes, Beyond the wall where all the sleepers dwell. We follow where the silver saucer flies, And bid the city's river-flow farewell.
