[Verse 1 - quiet, narrative, almost spoken, just guitar]
Five-fifteen at Dottie's diner,
the dark still on the glass.
There's a suitcase sitting by his boot—
you'd swear he's leaving fast.

Earl didn't say a word this morning,
and June won't meet his eye.
Dottie pours and never asks them
why the bags and why goodbye.

[Chorus - opens emotionally but stays tender, not a power ballad]
So they talk around the weather,
talk around the kids back home.
Two people being careful
with a thing they've never shown.
Nobody's crying, nobody's saying it,
the sun ain't even rose.
Just the booth by the window
and a secret no one knows.

[Verse 2 - the first turn - the ticket is hers]
She slides a ticket from her handbag,
her name spelled out in ink—
one-way, Tennessee, by sunrise,
'fore they have time to think.

There's a letter, soft and folded,
and a photo, creased and gray:
a woman, maybe fifty now,
June's eyes, smile and June's own way.

[Bridge - the real turn - hushed, then the line]
Earl looked long at that picture,
his grip goes tight and hard—
he's loved this woman all these years,
he just never knew this part.

"She's got my eyes," June whispers,
"and I never held her once."
Earl just asks her, "...How long?"
She says, "Fifty years come fall."

He don't get angry, don't get even,
don't make her say the rest—
he takes that hurt and folds it
underneath his trembling hand.

[Final Chorus - the vocal finally opens and aches]
So they don't talk about the weather,
don't talk about the years.
He reaches 'cross and takes her hand
like a man making peace with his own fears.
Nobody's crying, nobody's saying it,
but the whole booth seems to know—
some love's not about the keeping.
Some love just lets you go.

[Outro - the third meaning of the suitcase - just guitar and voice]
The Greyhound's at the corner,
the dawn all soft and gray.
Earl lifts that suitcase by his boot
and turns to walk away.

He walks it to the platform,
the bus is leaving soon.
He won't say "stay," won't say "sorry,"
He just says "go on and meet her, June."
