Verse 1 Love is a contradiction As I took out a pen in the drawer I-I-I memorised everything They shut down the avenue tonight Black cars lined up A thousand cameras Catch the diamonds Strangers knew her by name A daughter of a dynasty His soon to be husband built an empire out of steel Their names were printed on the front page after me Juliet marries Romeo in red dress Before they knew how love would feel They had other issues to address Who doesn’t anyway? The papers called it "the wedding of the century," The government called it a deal They counted guest and every gift Nobody accounted what was real In mist of love they buried their hearts Pre-Chorus And I was just somebody Standing outside the gate, Watching all the flowers arrive And all the secrets embraced Their love songs of dedication Downtown catching ears like a wildfire Love beaming Chorus It was a red wedding, oh oh Red roses, red wine, red headlines. Everybody had a story About the bride and groom that night. They said she married money, They said he married fame, They listed every mistake Before they learned their names. Red wedding Red wedding Red wedding (real but it made her cry right there and then cause) Red wedding (ten years with somebody you don’t know) Red wedding (red wedding, red wedding) Red wedding (red wedding, red wedding) Yeah, it was her red wedding Everything in red But underneath the diamonds, Underneath the things they owned, There were two people holding hands Trying not to be alone It was just a red wedding Verse 2 Love is a condition But her father gave a thirty-minute speech About the family name His old friends sat at table twelve And pretended nothing changed There were rumors in the ballroom Old photographs nobody showed A few ghosts from their past lives Dancing underneath the gold She had a million-dollar necklace He had so much to prove Funny how the richest people Still have the most to lose Pre-Chorus And I was just somebody Standing in the reception venue, I was there when their vows were live And the husband was in my hotel last night Their love was so hurried All the wedding goers catching love like infection Love is gleaming Chorus It was a red wedding, oh oh Red roses, red wine, red headlines. Everybody had a story About the bride and groom that night. They said she married money, They said he married fame, They listed every mistake Before they learned their names. Red wedding Red wedding Red wedding (real but it made her cry right there and then cause) Red wedding (ten years with somebody you don’t know) Red wedding (red wedding, red wedding) Red wedding (red wedding, red wedding) Yeah, it was her red wedding Everything in red But underneath the diamonds, Underneath the things they owned, There were two people holding hands Trying not to be alone Wasn’t just a red wedding Bridge Maybe money makes a bigger show Maybe fame sounds like thunder Maybe when you've got the whole world watching, You just want one person who stays around Mmm mmmm mm The cameras caught the kiss, The newspapers caught the dress But nobody caught the moment When she whispered, "this is our red wedding, are you okay?" And he said, "Baby, this is your red wedding, don’t forget our parents forced this. But yeah, I’m okay." Final Chorus It was a red wedding, Red roses, red wine, red sky The richest couple in the country Just trying to get through the night Red wedding Red wedding Let them keep their towers, Let them keep their name. Everyone is more than Their fortune and their mistakes. Red wedding Red wedding Because underneath the diamonds, Underneath the throne they made, There were two people choosing love At the end of a very long day Red wedding (Outro - fading) After all, it wasn’t just a wedding It was just her wedding It was “thee” red wedding Not a classic murder, No shootouts, no blooding Just a red wedding
