Water... clouds... blue sky... How come none of you ever have to ask why? I watched the water throw itself against the shore Break into a thousand pieces Then come back and do it once more Never embarrassed by the mess it made Never standing there wishing it had behaved And I wondered... When did I learn to be ashamed? Why do we push ourselves aside? Why do we try so hard to hide? Why are we so filled with pride when none of us get out alive? The water never asks if it's enough The clouds don't apologize for covering the sun The sky doesn't shrink so somebody else can shine So why... why do I? The waves don't care who's watching them fall They break... and somehow they're still whole Maybe I've been asking the wrong thing all this time Maybe I don't need a reason why I watched the waves crash beneath me Watched the clouds drift on Nothing begged to be remembered Nothing feared being gone And there I stood with all my reasons All the things I couldn't forgive Funny how I've spent so much of my life trying to deserve the right to live Why do we push ourselves aside? Why do we bury what we feel inside? Why do we run and hide from the only life we get to call mine? The water never asks if it's enough The clouds don't apologize for covering the sun The sky doesn't shrink so somebody else can shine So why... why do I? The waves don't care who's watching them fall They break... and somehow they're still whole Maybe I've been asking the wrong thing all this time Maybe I don't need a reason why Maybe... we weren't made to hold everything. Maybe being strong was never supposed to mean never bending. Trees bend. Clouds change. Tides leave. Even mountains come apart. And somehow... I thought I was the one thing that wasn't allowed to. God... I've been hard on me. So let me move like water moves Let me change like weather does Let me fall apart without believing I've become someone unworthy of love Let me lose Let me grieve Let me want Let me leave Let me finally be alive without explaining why... THE WATER NEVER ASKS IF IT'S ENOUGH THE CLOUDS DON'T APOLOGIZE FOR BLOCKING OUT THE SUN THE SKY DOESN'T MAKE ITSELF SMALLER TO BELONG SO MAYBE... MAYBE I WAS WRONG THE WAVES CAN BREAK A MILLION TIMES AND STILL COME HOME WITH EVERY TIDE Maybe there's nothing I have to prove Maybe being alive... is enough to do. Water... clouds... blue sky... I think... I finally know why.
