[Verse 1] You hold out your hands Like the world owes more A paper cup full And you call it poor I saw your face fall At the smallest thing That look said, give me What I think I need But the table's set With what came through Some days it's a plate Some days just a few [Pre-Chorus] Still you stare at it Like it bruised your pride Baby, take the bite And let it ride Stop making a storm Out of a crumb You can chew the truth Or you can come undone [Chorus] Take what you get (take what you get) Take what you get (take what you get) Don't spit it back Don't throw a fit Take what you get (take what you get) Take what you get (take what you get) If it's in your hands It was made to fit [Verse 2] You want the clean part You want the sweet side You want the gold thread And the easy light But the bowl still holds What the day sent in A chipped little blessing And a dented win So quit that face Quit the wounded show What you got today Is what you know [Pre-Chorus] Yeah, it stings a bit Yeah, it comes in rough But a mouth full of thanks Is still enough Don't fold your arms Don't turn away The train already left You can choose to stay [Chorus] Take what you get (take what you get) Take what you get (take what you get) Don't spit it back Don't throw a fit Take what you get (take what you get) Take what you get (take what you get) If it's in your hands It was made to fit [Bridge] I know, I know You wanted more A brighter cut A better door But the rain came down On this exact street And you still got time And you still got beat So hold that line Stop shaking apart What lands in your palm Can mend the heart [Chorus] Take what you get (take what you get) Take what you get (take what you get) Don't spit it back Don't throw a fit Take what you get (take what you get) Take what you get (take what you get) If it's in your hands It was made to fit [Outro] Take what you get Take what you get (take what you get) Hold it close Then let it live
