The Spared [B2] (NDC-Bingo)

[Intro] [Stand-up bass alone — slow, deep, walking — hurdy-gurdy enters beneath like a distant drone] [Verse 1] My father's fields were green when the summer came Three hundred acres, four generations of our name My daughter coughed on Monday My wife on Wednesday night By Friday half the farmhands wouldn't rise I did not cough I did not burn I held their hands and felt nothing in return And I thought — I have to go Someone in the city will know what this is Someone in the city will know what to do [Chorus 1] Lord let me find help There must be someone who knows Lord let me find help Before this darkness grows I'll ride through the night if I have to I'll find what my family needs Lord let me find help Someone who can stop this Before it takes them from me [Verse 2] The road to the city felt wrong before I saw it The birds were not where birds should be The smell came first — like something left too long In summer heat with no one left to care The gates were open when they shouldn't be The square was lit with fire in the middle of the day And the ones still standing watched me ride in With eyes that had already given up on God A hundred bodies in a pile still burning A cart of more coming down the hill And a priest on his knees in the middle of the square Praying to a heaven that had gone completely still [Chorus 2] Lord why did you spare me When the others fell like wheat Lord why did you spare me What am I supposed to be My hands are warm, my lungs are clear While theirs grow cold around me Lord why did you spare me I never asked to be The one still breathing [Bridge] [Bass drops to a single repeating note — hurdy-gurdy rises, slow and relentless] I rode back through the night My mother met me at the door She couldn't stand up straight My father wouldn't speak by morning My brother called my name out At the end he called me twice My wife held on the longest She made me promise things I couldn't hear through the noise in my head My daughter held my hand And asked me why she had to go I told her I didn't know I told her I didn't know I told her [Verse 3] The house went quiet on a Thursday I remember because the sun came out that day Like nothing had happened Like the world hadn't ended In every room I walked through I went out to the fields The crops were still growing Nobody to harvest them Nobody to eat them I stood in the middle of three hundred acres Four generations of our name And something in me Came apart And I laughed And I laughed And I couldn't stop laughing And the fields just kept growing And the sky just stayed blue And I laughed [Final Chorus] Lord why did you spare me Lord why did you spare me Lord why did you spare me Lord Lord Lord why [Outro] [Bass and hurdy-gurdy slow to almost nothing] The fields are green The fields are still green Nobody Nobody Nobody [Bass note fades to silence] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Delta Blues descent into madness set during the Black Death — told from the perspective of a man who rides to the city hoping to find help for his dying family, only to find a city already broken and burning. He returns too late for all of them. His wife, daughter, parents, brother — gone one by one while his own body refuses to betray him. His immunity is not salvation but the cruelest punishment imaginable. The song does not flinch. By the final chorus the man is gone and only the question remains — unanswered, unanswerable. The listener descends with him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bingo Board — 2026 [A1] GoGo × Shame [B1] Klezmer × Thirst [C1] Mongolian Throat Singing × Entropy [D1] Instrumental Only × Aerobics [E1] Native American Flute × Democracy [F1] Hopera × Mushroom / Fungi [A2] Rap × Nature [B2] Delta Blues × Dark Ages [C2] Grand Country × Uplifting [D2] Motown × Awakening [E2] Surf Rock × Surrealism [F2] Accordion × Train Hopping [A3] Chap Hop × Muscle Flex [B3] Witch House × Shed Your Burden [C3] Ska × Conflict [D3] Cyberpunk × Transmittable [E3] Groove Metal × Gnomes [F3] Wonky × Ice Cream [A4] Yacht Rock × Love [B4] Screamo × Bubblegum [C4] Fado Phonk × Africa Language [D4] Electronic Dance × 42 [E4] R&B Funk × Banana Split [F4] Skweee × Dating [A5] Lo-fi Indie Pop × Cheating Death [B5] Krautgaze Drone Rock × Heartbreak [C5] Balkan Folk × Transformation [D5] NeoFolk × Hardship [E5] Classical Music × Bird [F5] Alternative Rock × Courage [A6] Harpsichord Symphonic Metal × Faith [B6] Vocal Only / Acapella × Hope [C6] Ballad × Seduction [D6] Psychedelic Newgrass × Philosophy [E6] Yodeling × High Fantasy [F6] Punkrock × Awkward Fathers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ © 2026 Ande Records Lyrics by Ande All rights reserved. https://ande-records.se/
